Specialized in tribology, we explore the phenomena of friction, wear, and lubrication to enhance the efficiency and durability of mechanical systems. In photonics, our researchers are pushing the boundaries of optical technologies, driving progress in sectors such as telecommunications, healthcare, aerospace, space, and defense. Finally, our work in hydrogen technologies focuses on the development of advanced surface coatings, with a particular emphasis on the production, storage, and use of this low-carbon energy carrier.

R&D Programs
IREIS supports its clients throughout their R&D projects, from proof of concept to technology transfer. The institute regularly participates in funded projects (ANR, FUI, ADEME, PIA, H2020, etc.).
Industrial Studies
We develop coatings on flat or 3D parts using advanced technologies (sputtering, PECVD) and a wide range of materials. As an institute specialized in surface engineering, we offer comprehensive solutions—from testing to pre-industrial scale.
Expertise and Testing in Tribology
Our tribometry capabilities range from standard tests to rigs simulating real-world conditions, enabling analysis, failure expertise, and the resolution of tribological issues. We also offer specialized training.
Surface Engineering
IREIS designs high-value tribological components (rings, bearings, optical filters, micro-batteries) and develops innovative deposition equipment (PVD, PACVD, laser, plasma).

IREIS is the Research and Development subsidiary of the HEF group, a leader in surface materials engineering, ensuring high-performance surface coating treatments for its clients and the HEF group, based on diverse research and innovation efforts.
IREIS contributes to the development of key industries such as nuclear energy, electric mobility, and hydrogen technologies.
Serving societal challenges:
Holding the status of SRC (Contracted Research Structure),
IREIS conducts a significant portion of its activities working with clients external to the HEF group, always aiming to provide its expertise in surface materials engineering.
IREIS is also certified by the French Ministry of Research as a research service provider eligible for the Research Tax Credit (CIR).
